Location: Oswego, NY Category: Academic / Faculty Posted On: Tue Nov 5 2024 Job Description: Description of Department: Communication Studies is the largest department in the School of Communication, Media, and the Arts, serving more than 550 majors and minors with close to 40 full and part-time faculty members. The department offers majors in broadcasting and mass communication, communication, journalism, and public relations with minors in communication and journalism as well as online programs in public relations and broadcasting and mass communication. Our graduate program offers an M.A. in strategic communication along with an option for a certificate in integrated and social media. The master's degree offers an online or residential modality. In fall 2025, the department will move into a fully renovated $80-million center for media arts that will allow us to expand our emphasis on applied learning with state-of-the-art television production studios, a digital newsroom, VR/AR studios, postproduction facilities, a film/video screening room, and classrooms fully integrated with the latest instructional technology. Our faculty includes world-class researchers and award-winning practitioners -- each dedicated to fostering student success in today's competitive and evolving media and communication landscape. Date of Appointment: August 2025 Description of Responsibilities: The Professor of Practice in Multimedia Journalism with a focus on sports will teach undergraduate courses that may include news writing, news/sports reporting, broadcast news/sports producing, digital and social media journalism, podcasting, data journalism, media production, AI and journalism, esports journalism, sports broadcasting, and integrated media writing and design. The candidate will also be responsible for developing new courses and/or updating existing courses, particularly in sports, to align with current and emerging industry trends. Faculty service, including student advising and serving on department and university committees is expected. In addition, the candidate will be required to demonstrate continued engagement in the industry by actively participating in one or more of the industry's professional associations (i.e. RTDNA, SPJ, NABJ, etc.) and/or producing creative work in journalism, media production, or related fields for competitions, exhibitions, broadcast, or publication. Job Requirements: Required Qualifications: Master's degree or Ph.D. in journalism or related field. Professional, non-academic, experience producing news and sports content across multiple platforms such as television, web, social media, radio, podcast, print, and/or emerging platforms. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of AP Style, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and other relevant digital tools. Experience working with diverse students in a multicultural environment. Experience teaching or mentoring college students in face-to-face and online instructional settings.
