Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Patient Transport/Lift Team Member to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely lifting, moving, and transferring patients using a variety of techniques.

  • Apply various techniques to lift, move, and transfer patients, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the process.
  • Assess and choose the safest transfer methods based on each patient's individual needs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in patient lifting, positioning, and transport.
  • Maintain a high standard of patient safety during all movements.
  • Utilize knowledge in CPR, infection control, customer relations, and equipment management to adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to perform regular rounds on patient units, following predefined response criteria.
  • Experience or training in patient lifting and transfer techniques is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of patient safety, infection control, and CPR.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a healthcare team.
Responsibilities:
  • Patient Transfer: Safely transport patients throughout the hospital using all required safety equipment and precautions. This includes transferring patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or vehicles, assisting ambulatory patients, and utilizing available transfer equipment.

  • Patient Lifting: Expertly use all safety equipment for patient lifting and transfer. Collaborate with the appropriate number of team members to ensure safe lifting procedures.

  • Patient Safety: Employ all necessary safety equipment, including gait belts, stretcher and bed brakes, and lifting devices, to ensure patient safety during transfers and movements.

  • Timely Response and Dispatch: Maintain constant communication with the department via walkie-talkie and phone, adhering to capacity management protocols. Respond to all requests within 10 minutes. Prioritize and manage patient escort trips and departmental requests efficiently.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Keep an accurate log of safe lift technician duties, submitting it at the end of each shift. Report any issues or concerns to the charge nurse, nurse supervisor, or nurse manager promptly.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean and maintain stretchers and wheelchairs after each use. Use the Green is Clean tape to indicate cleaned equipment and manage supplies at cleaning stations.

  • Patient Care Assistance: Support with positioning, turning, lifting, and ambulating patients. Assist with patient movement during complex dressing changes and other care procedures. Provide accurate handoff reports to the incoming shift.

  • Team Collaboration: Work with the healthcare team to perform purposeful hourly rounding and ensure comprehensive patient care.

  • Additional Duties: Proactively seek out and complete additional assignments or duties as directed by the Nursing Supervisor or Nurse Manager.

Qualifications:
  • Patient Care Experience: Preferred, but not required.
  • Physical Strength: Ability to frequently lift over 50 pounds and push/pull weights exceeding 200 pounds. No lifting limitations.
  • Communication Skills: Proven experience in roles requiring strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification required.
  • Training: Successfully complete Lift Team, Transport Team, and patient services orientation training. Additionally, complete body mechanics training with the Physical Therapy Department and undergo a mandatory physical competence reevaluation every 6 months or as required by the manager.
  • Exercise Program: Participation in an ongoing exercise program is encouraged. Gym membership reimbursement available up to $240 annually.
  • Skills: Ability to read, write, perform basic math, and work effectively under pressure. Must communicate clearly with patients, hospital staff, and visitors.
  • Routine Duties: Capable of performing routine, repetitive tasks using well-defined procedures under close supervision.
