The incumbent is largely responsible for receiving patients who present to the ED in need of medical care. On arrival, they obtain information regarding enrollment and ensures timely, accurate data is entered into VISTA. This includes patient demographics next of kin, military eligibility, and insurance information. Incumbent must report patient behavior that indicates a medical emergency or potential psychiatric emergency to professional clinical staff. They must also respond to patient flags, both behavioral and administrative, ensuring proper actions or precautions are initiated. Incumbent helps direct pedestrian traffic in and out of the ED as appropriate. He/she will open the doors to the ED via the automatic release button when other employees/visitors attempt to enter the ED. Incumbent is responsible for identification of visitors and non-ED employees upon entry of the ED. Incumbent coordinates with the emergency care team to review the clinic utilization by using various tracking and reporting systems (e.g. Emergency Department Information Systems (EDIS), Emergency Medicine Management Tool) and ensures clinic setup is closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinic, and make necessary adjustments. He/she manages EDIS, which records and tracks ED patients during incidents of care, display the current state of care delivery, reports and data extracts on the delivery of emergency care. Incumbent must monitor and maintain Reddinet 24/7. Reddinet is a software program that connects SFVA and all local ED agencies with the SF Department of Public Health Emergency Management for the purposes of diversion and disaster communication. They are responsible to respond to random daily polling. They are the operator that places the ED on diversion under the direction of the charge nurse, HOD, or nurse supervisor. They maintain the log for all activations and assist by notifying the charge nurse and HOD of the city's diversion or suspension of diversion status. Incumbent ensures timely and efficient patient encounter checkouts. Reviews daily all "action required" in VISTA and clears out all un-transmitted visits to acquire workload credit for the ED visit. Incumbent may assist professional staff with the inventory of valuables and money of patients being admitted. The incumbent will complete meal orders after conferring with the charge nurse. Incumbent receives and manages multi-lines phones calls to the appropriate staff. Other assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: participating in team huddles and team meetings to manage and plan patient care; adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs; may work with the team to reinforce the plan of care and self-help solutions and entering appropriate information into the electronic record; monitoring pre-appointment requirements to assure readiness for patient visit/procedure (e.g., X-ray, lab work); participating and providing input in problem solving on operational issues or procedures in team meetings, performing administrative follow up actions; participating in and independently following up on team huddles by sharing information and collaborating with the medical team to assure continuity of care. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard at the specified grade level and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time.
