DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position is a Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor that serves as the Program Manager responsible for administering a complex School Health Services Program within the Florida Department of Health in Broward County. The role ensures school health services are delivered per the local school health contract, school health services plan, the Florida School Health Administrative Guidelines, Florida state statutes, and other mandatory regulations, while working closely with internal staff, contracted providers, and external partners. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Community Health and works closely with the Executive Community Health Nursing Director.  This position requires strong leadership, collaboration, program management, and compliance oversight skills.

 

KEY DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Administer the School Health Program, ensure services comply with local contracts, state statutes, and mandatory guidelines.
  • Provide regulatory oversight and effective communication with contracted providers to ensure timely delivery of program requirements.
  • Supervise and assist Registered Nurse Specialists in conducting site visits and providing technical guidance to providers to assure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and revise policies and procedures to enhance program operations.
  • Collaborate daily with local community partners to ensure program alignment with health service plans and regulations.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness, staff performance, and quality of care through direct observation, contract monitoring, and regular staff meetings.
  • Manage school health contracts, including but not limited to general oversight, amendments, and renewals in collaboration with providers and funding partners.
  • Serve as a Level 4 Budget Manager, preparing and monitoring annual budgets, and ensuring accurate financial reporting and adjustments.
  • Facilitate all activities of and serve as the Department’s representative on the Broward County Comprehensive School Health Advisory Committee (BCCSHAC).
  • Serve as the department’s representative on committees such as the Health and Wellness Committee, Nutrition and Fitness Taskforce and other committees as assigned.
  • Coordinate school health activities with internal and external stakeholders and preparing required reports.
  • Drive to various school locations and maintaining program documentation.
  • Work closely with the Executive Community Health Nursing Director to develop and facilitate training programs complete with skills check for all nursing staff. Facilitate training for employees, Immunization POD staff, and community partners.
  • Additional responsibilities include creating and updating care plan templates, program evaluation tools, and performing other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience hiring, supervising, and evaluating employees’ performances.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and practices and ability to implement them.
  • Basic arithmetic, office procedures and practices. 
  • Knowledge of public agencies involved in health and human services and Community Based Organizations in Broward County.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent typing and computer skills needed including knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Experience in Presentations and speaking in front of a group of people.
  • Ability to speak clearly and correctly, listen effectively, record and evaluate data. 
  • Ability to plan and organize work assignments and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to motivate, develop and direct people as they work.
  • Ability to collect data and compile reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

  • State of Florida Registered Nurse Licensure, in accordance with Florida Statute 464.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
  • Current Florida licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Currently CPR certified.
  • Valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation that may be used to travel between work sites if needed.
  • Do you have at least two years of RN experience working with pediatrics?

 

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  •   Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited college or university.  
  • At least one year of experience hiring, supervising, and evaluating employees’ performances.
  • At least two years of experience working with School Health Services (K-12 sector).
  • At least one year of experience managing contracts .
