Who We Are:

The vision for Westside Waldorf School has been to offer children a school that can be their home from preschool through 8th grade — to build a school that provides community for families for a decade or more as their children move through the grades. Based on Waldorf teachings and philosophy, our curriculum takes a complete approach to learning — “head, heart, and hands” — seeing each child as an individual with innate talents and abilities. 

Summary of Position 

Our experiential education program brings movement classes to each student to enrich the whole child, mind, and body. The movement teacher provides a holistic approach to physical movement through imagination, clear instruction, and developmentally appropriate expectations. The movement class aims to calm students’ nervous systems and ground them. The classes build strength and flexibility, proprioception, mindfulness, and enhance kinesthetic learning.

Duties:

• Creates a yoga-based movement curriculum for students in grades 1-7,
• Collaborates with classroom teachers to ensure that the movement curriculum supports the classroom curriculum,
• Other duties as directed to meet the needs of the school.

Job Responsibilities:

• Facilitates yoga-based movement education classes,
• Integrates Waldorf pedagogy with yogic principles, philosophies and practices,
• Manages the classroom spaces allocated for movement in support with the classroom teacher and operations to ensure mindful class transitions, 
• Maintains and organizes any needed props and materials and works collaboratively within the multipurpose spaces on campus,
• Attends faculty meetings as needed,
• Supports Class and Specialty teachers and participate in assemblies and festivals.
• Participates in school community and public relations events (e.g., annual Open House),
• Participates in professional development,
• Maintains open, effective communication with parents in a timely manner,
• Participates in parent-teacher conferences,
• Creates and administer age-appropriate assessments,
• Writes student assessment reports each semester (December & June).
• Implements classroom management techniques to create a nurturing and structured classroom environment
• Maintains a safe learning environment.

Experience & Expectations:

• Waldorf Education training/experience desired
• BA desired
• At least 8-10 years of movement teaching experience
• Knowledge and skills in facilitating social emotional learning 
• Knowledge of or interest in topics including nutrition, mind/body connection, classical yoga, functional anatomy, meditation and mindfulness
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations, 
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking skills
• Computer skills and project management skills.
• Proficiency in written communication, spelling, and grammar.
• Able to manage responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the community.
• Passing Live Scan (fingerprinting) background check and TB clearance.
• CPR/First Aid certification (current)
• Willingness to embrace continuous improvement and professional and personal growth
