Job Description



AECOM is seeking a dynamic Managing Principal to lead and expand our multidisciplinary Architecture, Engineering, Interiors, and Urbanism + Planning consulting practice, based in our Boston office. We are looking for a Boston-based, industry-recognized leader with established client relationships, particularly in the public sector, who can elevate AECOM as a top infrastructure consulting firm in New England.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategy: Lead AECOM’s 65-person Buildings & Places (B+P) practice, driving the local strategy to build strong client relationships, secure strategic opportunities, and deliver key projects across the region
  • Business Growth: Develop and execute the strategic growth plan for the region, including client outreach, securing NSR Bookings, and leading major pursuit
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Clients, Design Principals, Market Sector Leaders, and Project Managers to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions
  • Market Expertise: Demonstrate strong relationships and a proven ability to secure and deliver work with New England’s major public agency clients
  • Thought Leadership: Provide design and thought leadership on key projects and programs, contributing to AECOM’s reputation for excellence
  • Team Development: Build and mentor high-performance design teams, fostering an environment of innovation and collaboration. Align operations with strategic priorities and empower others through coaching and support
  • Change Management: Champion AECOM’s vision by making it relatable, inspiring buy-in, and mobilizing teams to drive meaningful change

AECOM’s Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building engineering, workplace strategy, business transformation, asset advisory, economics and development planning, master planning, urban planning, and landscape architecture. With a range of expertise from strategy and design through project realization, we create better outcomes to grow economies, protect natural systems, conserve natural resources, make societies more equitable, and connect and engage people through innovative, sustainable design solutions. Our teams have worked on signature projects such as the London 2012 Olympic Park and Legacy Framework, to the new plan for the LA2028 Olympics, to industrial facilities for GE and Rolls-Royce, to headquarters and workplaces for NASA, Unilever, Sony Music, DirecTV, Box, Inc., and many Fortune 500 companies. 

Qualifications



Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field (Engineering, Interior Design, Planning), with ten (10) years of relevant experience and/or education, including at least 2 years in a leadership role
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for this position
  • Licensed professional Architect, Engineer, or Interior Designer with experience in a national or regional organization

:

  • Master’s or professional degree in Architecture or a related discipline
  • Proven track record in leading and growing a multidisciplinary, cross-business line practice
  • Strong client relationships and successful project delivery within Boston and New England’s major public agencies.
  • Expertise in strategic business development, client management, and revenue growth
  • Experience in driving business development through early client engagement, scope development, interviews, and client relations
  • Experience as Principal-in-Charge of large, multidisciplinary project teams
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Regional Leadership, Market Sector Leaders, and Project Directors to define project scopes, plans, and schedules
  • Proven success in delivering projects within budget and schedule, ensuring targeted profit margins, and managing client expectations
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Passion for mentoring and developing staff to enhance their careers and contribute to the firm’s growth
  • 15+ years of experience in the Boston/New England market
  • Experience in client markets such as Transportation, Higher Education, Federal, and Cities is a plus
