KBEM Show Host 

 

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, produces and hosts streamed content, writes, produces, and curates KBEM and MPS VOICES entertainment, news and public affairs content and programming.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Creates and hosts programming for MPS Voices and KBEM radio and digital platforms. Creates, produces and hosts a podcast and other programming for MPS Voices that focuses on sports of all levels, including high school, collegiate, and professional.

• Gathers and edits content from students and school sites; mentors students.

• Hosts or emcee’s related functions and events as needed, including announcing MPS Voices broadcasts of MPS sporting events via play-by-play or color commentary.

• Responds to listener inquiries via phone, email, and social media.

• Interviews and records students, faculty, student athletes, coaches, news-makers, and others for broadcasts and streaming.

• Works independently, and makes appropriate decisions based on experience; performs work within scope

of authority and training.

• Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and

MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment

• Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and

procedures.

• Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.

• Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis

• At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish

requirements of the position.

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Associate’s Degree in Broadcast Technology, Communications or related field; AND two (2) years of radio

broadcasting experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined

by Human Resources.

 

Knowledge of :

• FCC guidelines, rules, and regulations governing telecommunications operations.

• Local community resources and regional community services programs.

• Methods and techniques used in the development and production of streamed and broadcast projects.

• Professional journalistic methods, including research, development and presentation.

• Correct English grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

 

Skill in :

• Operating complete spectrum of audio production software and equipment, including digital recorders, audio mixing board,

digital editing software, and music programming software and hardware.

• Writing, editing and developing a variety of communications materials.

• Teaching, mentoring and supervising MPS students.

• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients.

• Operating a personal computer utilizing standard office software.

• Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a standard office and radio station environment which requires occasionally lifting

such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects

frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve

sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.
