Job Description

PT - Host/Board Operator/ Production Assistant/Reporter


Salary:

$15.00 per hour.

Summary of Function:
Assists in the production and presentation of programming on KAWC/KOFA Border Radio including broadcasts and internet streams. Maintains and operates computer automation system (ENCO/DAD); produces programming using multitrack digital editing software (Adobe Audition/Audacity); records announcements for KAWC and KOFA Border Radio including weather forecasts, promotions, and continuity for network and local programs. Supports outreach and fundraising efforts.

Typical Duties:

  • Serves Students. Identify, obtain, and load audio files for daily broadcasts, including promotional material and music; record announcements for broadcast on KAWC and KOFA Border Radio including weather forecasts, promotions, and descriptions of music selections using the ENCO automation system and multitrack editing software including Adobe Audition.
  • Research and gather information, including conducting interviews for public service announcements, community news, and profiles of musicians and other artists for broadcast and streaming.
  • Support full-time staff in daily station operations.
  • Support KAWC outreach and fundraising activities including public events and pledge drives.
  • Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Interest in public radio

Preferred:

  • Students at AWC, NAU-Yuma, U of A Yuma and ASU Local-Yuma
  • Spanish language fluency
  • Audio editing and production experience
  • Public radio experience

Classification:

  • Non-Exempt

Position Type & Work Schedule:

  • Part-time
  • Up to 19 hours per week
  • Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs, which may include
    Fridays, nights, and/or weekends

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
  • Skill in utilizing a computer and other current technologies; Microsoft Office applications, Windows
  • Skill in managing one’s own time
  • Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development
  • Ability to learn and utilize studio related equipment
  • Ability to demonstrate a genuine interest in public radio
  • Ability to organize, work independently, prioritize, follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion,
    with close attention to detail
  • Ability to contribute to a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to provide assistance for diverse populations in a professional and supportive manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in writing, and in a public setting, and to relate to others in a
    professional manner
  • Ability and desire to serve the community
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using
    independent judgment and decision-making processes
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working and collaborative relationships with other department
    staff, faculty, students and the public

Work Environment:

  • Inside office environment with normal noise and lighting levels
  • Work is performed in a studio and an open office environment with contact and interruptions
  • Working environment may include various locations across the service district, indoor and/or outdoor
    locations as needed to support program, department or institutional needs


Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or within the studio
  • Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking
  • May lift, carry, push, and/or pull, at times a minimum of 10 pounds
  • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or twist

Travel:

  • May be required to travel to other locations using various modes of private, commercial, or fleet transportation,
    and as needed to support program, department and institutional needs
