ENTRY-LEVEL LANDSCAPE DESIGNER
$20 - $22/hour
Pacific Outdoor Living is offering a unique opportunity to apprentice under some of the best landscape designers in Los Angeles - and get paid as you hone your skills! Our apprentices will learn and practice our proprietary step-by-step process and get to see it in action by being mentored under seasoned Design Sales Reps who design and sell $100K - $200K worth of outdoor projects every week. Our system allows designers to focus on their passion – designing – while we provide our in-house support team to take care of estimating, permitting, etc. We created this apprenticeship program to help funnel creative talent into our ranks – because we are expanding! PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
· Apply oneself to training content, by completing assigned readings and exercises in a timely manner
· Implement what you learn by hands-on experience in all the major phases of landscape design, including Site Analysis, CAD, Design, Client Engagement and Presentation, Administration, and Closing the Sale
· Conduct thorough site analyses, including soil conditions and topography
· Demonstrate proficiency in using design software such as CAD or SketchUp
· Show proficiency in hand-drawing and rendering skills for design presentations
· Apply principles of landscape design, including spatial planning, scale and balance
· Learn to select appropriate plants based on site conditions, client preferences and design objectives
· Hone your communication skills including actively listening to client needs and preferences to incorporate their feedback into design proposals
· Exercise effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with clients, team members and contractors
· Under the capable guidance of a seasoned Landscape Designer, learn and apply design principles to create visually appealing and functional landscape designs that meet client objectives and site requirements.
· Cultivate creativity and innovation in design solutions, considering unique site challenges, client preferences, and project constraints.
· Learn to create detailed construction drawings, specifications, and planting schedules that accurately communicate design intent to contractors and clients.
· Pay attention to technical details such as grading, drainage, materials, and construction methods to ensure feasibility and constructability of design proposals.
CAPABILITIES/KEY COMPETENCIES:
· Avid interest in learning and growing
· Creative ability to conceptualize ideas that can then be translated into landscape designs the client will love
· Effective written and verbal communication skills
· Sales experience is a plus. We will train the right person to close sales.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office
· AutoCAD knowledge
· Construction knowledge helpful
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
· Degree in Landscape Design, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design or Civil Engineering is acceptable, as well as Trade School certification.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Able to commute to multiple locations in the Los Angeles county area on a daily basis.
· Be able to work from home on computer as well as on the road
· This position will requires travel for site measurements and occasional in home client visits.
