Job Description

Company

Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco

We are a community-engaged bank, and we are committed to understanding and serving the vibrant, diverse people of the Twelfth District. That means we seek and appreciate new perspectives. We respect people for what they do and for who they are. We build opportunities to learn and grow.

Bring your passion and expertise, and we’ll provide the opportunities that will challenge you and propel your growth—along with a wide range of benefits and perks that support your health, wealth, and life.

We empower our people to balance their life and work responsibilities. That’s why we offer a flexible hybrid work model that allows you to collaborate with office colleagues on some days, and work from home on others.

What we Do:

Federal Reserve Financial Services (FRFS) delivers a suite of payments services to financial institutions via FedLine® Solutions, Fedwire®, National Settlement Service (NSS), FedCash®, FedACH® (Automated Clearing House), Check Services, and the FedNow® Service. In 2020, we undertook a strategic effort to transform FRFS from a product and support office framework to a national, enterprise-focused organization. The enterprise structure integrated the prior retail, wholesale, cash, and customer relations product and support offices into a new organization, which was further joined by the FedNow team in early 2024. Our North Star strategy, with the new structure, is to offer a fully integrated product suite that provides speed, resilience, and choice in meeting the payments needs of financial institutions across the United States. Through our evolved structure, we will meet the needs of the marketplace for new products and services more quickly, seek to provide a more robust and unified customer experience across our financial service offerings, and create new career growth opportunities for FRFS staff.

We are seeking leaders to set the vision, strategy, values, and priorities that enable FRFS to achieve its mission. Our leaders must demonstrate a strategic, action-oriented mindset focused on intellectual curiosity, agility, accountability, and the ability to drive innovation through experimentation. To achieve our vision for a people-focused organization with a strong collaborative and innovative culture, we expect our leaders to champion an inclusive environment and demonstrate our values in how we work and interact with each other and our broader community.

The FedCash Services group within FRFS is seeking a Data and Policy Analyst to join the Cash Insights and Policy Analysis (CIPA) team. FedCash Services provides operational mentorship and technology strategies for U.S. currency and coin supplied to depository institutions by the 12 Federal Reserve Banks. To help FedCash Services set its strategic direction and make sound business decisions, the CIPA team conducts qualitative and quantitative research on payment system trends, focusing on their relationship with cash, and considers innovations in Cash operations and the related eco-system.

The Data and Policy Analyst contributes a problem-focused and innovation-oriented lens to the broader mission of CIPA and FedCash Services.

  • Lead and support project teams on tasks and goals; be responsible for the development and refinement of research questions, work plans, and analytical approaches with minimal direction

  • Employ critical thinking skills to formulate research questions and execute analytical projects as part of a research agenda
  • Prepare high-quality products and present them to a range of audiences
  • Lead and/or participate in efforts to improve business systems and processes, in conjunction with partners and management
  • Serve as a resource to policy analysts or project team members in support of project or analytical tasks

Qualifications:

  • Typically requires 2 or more years of professional experience, ideally related to public policy, economics, banking, finance, operations, or government
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with an ability to uncover obscure relationships which are not apparently related
  • Expertise in SQL, Excel, and Microsoft Office suite applications; hands-on knowledge of statistical or mathematics applications and programming languages (e.g., SAS, Stata, R) strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to apply quantitative and statistical approaches (e.g., regression analysis) as well as experience in using a variety of research methods and other analytical techniques
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and consensus-building skills; ability to work independently and lead members of a team in an environment with diverse sets of stakeholders
  • Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder with the intent to become a US Citizen

Base Salary Range: Min: $78,200 - Mid: $101,700 - Max: $124,900 (Location: San Francisco)
