Position Summary:
The Community Education Specialist is a part of a one year pilot, created in a unique partnership with the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana and Fort Wayne Urban League for a person who is passionate about serving kids and families. This Specialist will work to recruit volunteers and girls to participate in Girl Scout troops in and near the Fort Wayne Urban League’s location and will also oversee all aspects of program implementation and planning for children and family activities at the Fort Wayne Urban League. The Community Education Specialist will be an employee of the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana and will work primarily from the Fort Wayne Urban League Office. This position will typically work from 10 AM-6:30 PM Monday through Thursday with flexible hours on Friday.
Essential Duties:
- Develop relationships in the Fort Wayne community on behalf of Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana and the Fort Wayne Urban League
- Seek out and identify volunteers willing to lead Girl Scout troops
- Establish Girl Scout troops and programs in/near the Fort Wayne Urban League, with the understanding that you may have to lead and support Girl Scout troops/programming to get them started
- Maintain the execution of the day-to-day program operations at the Fort Wayne Urban League, ensuring quality services to all children and families
- Welcome and monitor students and caregivers for the Fort Wayne Urban League Tutoring program. This will include scheduling, tracking and face-to-face interaction. Be trusted to open and close the agency. This will include weekly reminder phone calls
- Maintain a monthly calendar for Tutoring & Education programs which will include daily activities, special guests, projects, and engagement, and maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, and other communication opportunities
- Help Fort Wayne Urban League CEO establish curriculum for STEM Camp and meet registration requirements by engaging with neighborhood children that are in walking distance to the Fort Wayne Urban League
- Work to ensure all goals for all programs are met, including goals related to budget and quality program experiences
- Other duties as assigned to meet the goals of both organizations

Education:
- Associate’s degree preferred
- High School Diploma
Knowledge and Experience:
- 1-2 years experience working with children
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Networking and Community building background a plus
- Experience with project management techniques or willingness to learn
Physical/Mental Essential Requirements:
- Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to thirty (30) pounds)
- Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
- Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods of time
- Occasional need to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product
- Work is performed primarily in a non-smoking office environment
- Travel may expose employee to inclement weather conditions
- Valid Driver's License and willingness to travel to various work and meeting locations to meet with volunteers and staff
- Insurable under the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana policy for driving and proof of personal vehicle insurance
- Dependable transportation is a must
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed
- Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with staff and volunteers
