Associate Professor or Professor, Center for Mental Health, Policy, and the Law

The Center for Mental Health, Policy, and the Law (CMHPL) in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for a full-time (100%) clinical psychologist to join our core faculty as an Associate or Professor. The option of Research Associate Professor/Research Professor is also available. This is a non-tenure track position based at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, WA. As a core faculty of the CMHPL, the individual will be expected to make substantial contributions to the research portfolio, program development and/or evaluation, workforce development efforts, and/or advanced medical and psychology post-graduate forensic mental health training activities. This faculty member will interface and at times collaborate with key stakeholders across the university (e.g., School of Law, Department of Psychology), executive branch (e.g., Office of Forensic Mental Health Services), courts and specialty courts, and legislative branch.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach and conduct research in content areas relevant to forensic mental health and serious mental illness. The faculty will be expected to lead the Research Arm of the CMHPL which will include spearheading sponsored research funding, forging research collaborations with partners at the state, UW schools and departments within the university, as well as inter-institutional partnerships.

Recognizing the unique needs of justice-involved individuals with serious mental illness, their attorneys and care providers, and families, the successful candidate will be expected to navigate the intersection of complex psychological issues and social determinants of health. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in issues related to (1) competency to stand trial and competency restoration; (2) delivering evidence-based treatment in forensic settings; (3) criminal justice system diversion and reentry program development/evaluation; (4) forensic and psychological assessment and/or teleassessment; (5) crisis intervention services and/or training; or (6) training of law enforcement, correctional staff, and/or forensic evaluators.

  • Experience with training and/or consulting to correctional and/or behavioral healthcare professionals.
  • Familiarity with Washington State forensic systems and Washington case law relevant to area(s) of expertise.

Associate Professor and Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship, and service.

Salary

The base salary range for an Associate Professor will be: $9,500-$12,250 per month ($114,000 - $147,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The base salary range for a Professor will be: $14,500-$20,875 per month ($174,000 - $250,500 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Doctorate or foreign equivalent in clinical psychology from an APA or CPA-accredited university
  2. Must be eligible for licensure as a Clinical Psychologist in Washington State. Applicants currently licensed in another state will need to become licensed in Washington by the time of appointment. An exception to the licensure requirement can be made for Research-track faculty.
  3. Advanced education, training, and/or research experience in forensic psychology
